Earmarks – What a Difference 6 months makes…

Remember when Charlie Brown told us John Doolittle was caught in the “culture of corruption”, and his prime example after Abramoff was all those Earmarks.

While campaigning, Tom McClintock signed a no Earmark pledge, standing against the establishment and the wicked spending that has mortgaged our future.

Now – President Obama has eclipsed President Bush’s extravagance, running a deficit equal to the last four years of the Bush administration in only 70 days in office.

The Obama administration has restored integrity in Government with a string of appointees that didn’t pay their taxes.

Yet, six months ago it was Republican spending, McClintock’s per-diem, corrupt Earmarks, we need change you can believe in.

Today it is Republican obstructionists, McClintock voting against earmarks and massive deficits are called stimulus.

Charlie Brown’s supporters owe John Doolittle an apology – because now they are attacking McClintock for voting No on earmarks Doolittle would have supported.

Charlie Brown, had he won, would have voted to raise your taxes and for the largest deficits in American history. Pelosi would have been very appreciative to have had another puppet in Congress.

Sorry folks, you can keep that change.

ICYMI – Meg Whitman Rented Props for her National Press Coverage

That’s right – the now famous press release / article in Fortune Magazine… remember???

The Horse – you know, the Brown Horse, lampooned by the Sacramento Bee as should having been white… was rented.

John Wildermuth of the SF Chron spotted a snippet on CNN CNN Money… it details how Whitman rented her horse for the pitcure.

CNN Money quickly pointed out that Whitman does ride as she has a vacation home in Telluride Colorado. They go on to list a laundry of rich people that are supporting her campaign as well.

The rental of the horse for the photo is an indication of a troubling parallel to a situation we find ourselves in currently. We have a Governor that rented the GOP already.

Given that Whitman is a newly converted Republican… one would ask if this is some sort of sick irony. Arnold had a ton of rich people that supported him – given his polling numbers, I am wondering if anyone is still supporting Arnold.

We took a ton of stuff on faith regarding Arnold only to find out nothing was real. Here we go again – is anything about Whitman Real? (other than the problems left behind at Ebay…)

I can’t help but keep thinking about the op-ed detailing the greatest managerial acheivement being getting the servers back on-line at Ebay when they crashed.

California’s servers are crashed – only a War Room isn’t going to fix the problem. Rented Horses, photo opps, rich donors and the like aren’t going to do the job either. There are 50+3 reasons in the Assembly and 25+3 reasons in the State Senate for the State’s fiscal mess.

Republicans deserve a Republican – and the state desperately deserves a real leader that has delivered results.

I want to finish by using AB32 as an example. Arnold signed AB32 into law because he wanted to have a signature item to distinguish himself. There was absolutely no consideration of the consequences. (AB32 was the nebulously written global whining bill that Jerry Brown has been using as the basis to sue development out of existence)

Proof? Arnold’s budget was replete with AB32 exception requests – this is what happens with a rent-a-governor. His own desire to be “different” has left the rented political party holding the bag for a fiscal disaster.

In the words of Roberto Duran: No Mas.

Meg Whitman: Strength in the Face of a Fallen Oak Tree Part 2

This is the second part of a 2-part blog related to Meg Whitman’s earned media. I railed on Fortune Magazine for basically writing an article that amounts to a Press Release. I wonder if Fortune magazine is aware of Whitman’s baggage from the companies she used to run. (or worked in senior management for)

Not only is Whitman establishing herself to be ideaologically aligned with Arnold, but she is also following his campaign pattern. After disasterous appearances in the San Francisco Chronicle and the Los Angeles Times, it now appears to this blogger and other observers that Whitman has now decided to hop on her horse for photo opportunities.

The problem is that Whitman can not run from her record. Whitman is now the subject of a special employment application that is being circulated around the internet.

I documented how Whitman had the LA Times reporter removed from a meeting she was speaking at at the recent California GOP convention – now, the Fortune Magazine article is out.

The Bee Lampooned her posing with a brown horse for the photos – that part really doesn’t matter to me. What matters to me is that fixing Ebay’s Servers is equated to national security and fretting over a Fallen Oak Tree is equated to cleaning up the Garamendhi mess at the Department of Insurance.

Look at the articles linked above, it shows a disturbing pattern. Like Arnold, Whitman is using her paid staff to create a bubble around her. The voters were fooled by the pretty action hero stuffed shirt – but an Arnold redux is not going to do the job. Whitman is demonstrating that she is out of touch with California.

Running for Mayor of Atherton would not invite such questions. You could campaign to your neighbors – but a state replete with beleagured taxpayers need real answers. Meg Whitman chooses photo opportunities and avoidance – trying her case in the national media.

In Closing – Even Jerry Brown is now saying that we can’t tax California anymore. When a hard-core liberal like Brown (who destroyed our freeway system and even today is suing every development project he can under AB32) says it and Whitman can’t identify anything she’d cut from the budget… we have a problem.

I’m sure Gavin Newsome/Jerry Brown wishes he had as much money as Gray Davis did in 2002 – he’d start advertising on Whitman’s behalf.

Meg Whitman: Strength in the Face of a Fallen Oak Tree Part 1

It features Meg Whitman – on the front page of Fortune Magazine and with the accompanying Press Release masquerading as a political article.

In Walter’s Blog – he lifts what is the money quote from the Fortune Magazine Article:

Flash back to day one of Meg Whitman 2.0. We are sitting in her tidy living room in Atherton, Calif., on a rain-soaked morning in late February, at 24 hours and counting before she is due to give the first campaign speech of her life. Whitman, who left eBay a year ago after a decade in the job, seems unfazed by the trouble all around her. Besides waking up this morning to find a giant oak tree toppled in her front yard (it missed her white picket fence by inches), there’s the daunting reality of California. “We have the fourth-highest unemployment rate in the country. We’re 48th of 50 states in K-12 education,” Whitman says, spewing stats and sound bites as if she’s rehearsing for her first political debate. “Other states are stealing California’s jobs,” she says. “California is failing. I refuse to sit by and watch it happen.”

Neither is Poizner – in fact during the same time Whitman was oversoming the drama of the fallen Oak Tree… Poizner had cut the Department of Insurance budget by 10% – then some more. As a result, insurance brokers (like me) will see the cost of our licenses drop $13 a piece. Since George and I have two licenses each, that adds up. In addition, our policyholders will save a few bucks a policy in the form of lower policy fees.

Meg Whitman attacked for supporting SweatShop Labor

This post off the Huffington report is an opening salvo against Meg Whitman.

It also indicates one of Whitman’s substantial weaknesses against a Democrat.

Against a Republican in the primary – it is her Arnold-esque vacuous stances on the issues. Against a Democrat, it is the variety of Companies she led and the practices engaged in while she was leading them:

The entire post is linked

The Money quotes follow:

A couple of years ago, someone was trying to sell Vietnamese women on eBay. The auction went on for three days before eBay closed it down. EBay policy strictly forbids the sale or purchase of humans, living or dead. (Sorry, Owners of Ted William’s head.) But you can see where the slave trader had gotten the wrong impression. The CEO of eBay, Meg Whitman, had built a career on one job after another exploiting Asian women, the younger and more vulnerable the better.

And, these…

Prior to eBay, Meg was the General Manager of Hasbro Inc.’s Preschool Division. In this position, Meg was responsible for global management and marketing…”

Young workers in China who make holiday toys for Disney, Hasbro and RC2… report that their bodies are often covered with red welts from the bug bites, which can easily become infected if the wounds are scratched… Workers are at the factory 93 hours a week, toiling 13 and a half-hour shifts, seven days a week…

—National Labor Committee Report

“Meg served as President of the Stride Rite Corporation’s Stride Rite Division… She had also been Executive Vice President for the Keds Division…”
