smith_obamaDoes President Elect Obama have the mettle to make a decision and stick with it?

Obama has chosen Rick Warren, the senior pastor of Saddleback Church in southern California to deliver the invocation at his inauguration.

Obama’s choice has ignited a rash of criticism from gays who are seeking to oust Warren from the ceremony because of his support for Proposition 8 in California.

If Obama caves into their demands, it will be difficult to imagine him advocating for America  against global competitors or enemies. This is not a litmus test on gay rights as the homosexual community would have you believe, but a test of Obama’s character. Any decision he makes as President will anger someone, and we are watching to see if he has the courage of his convictions.

Supreme Court Hears Obama Case

Posted by: LukeAmerica2020 | Comments (3)

Today (2008-12-05), the Supreme Court justices will consider a lawsuit that alleges Senator Barack Obama was not qualified to be on the New Jersey ballot. The lawsuit was filed by attorney Leo Donofrio who is questioning Obama’s citizenship.

The high court hearing comes just 10 days before the Electoral College meets to certify the election results. And, finally, the MSM has offered some limited coverage of this monumental Supreme Court hearing (see the links below).

And, according to WorldNetDaily, more than 60,000 letters were sent to U.S. Supreme Court. These letters, one for each of the nine justices, delivered urgent requests to review Obama citizenship. (read this entire post…)

An unsettling discontent swells as I’m reminded of the closing words of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, “a government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth”. His resolute celebration of liberty has come to symbolize the very definition of democracy itself. Yet, who among us today could muster the fatuous optimism to rally truthfully that this founding creed is practiced by our designated representatives in DC?

Shouldn’t government authority be derived from the consent of the governed? Shouldn’t our elected representatives … represent us?

Some issues that confront us as a nation transcend political parties. The ongoing fervor for bailouts is one such example. Just two months ago democrats and republicans, ordinary citizens, of sundry leanings deluged Congress with demands to vote against the $700 billion bailout plan.

During a Senate vote on October 1, Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) took the podium to explain her position on the proposed bailout package. In her statement, she explained that she received 91,000 calls and emails, with 85,000 of them opposed to the measure. Even armed with the knowledge that 93% of her constituents were passionate enough to contact her office pleading for her to vote “nay”, she voted in favor of the bill, claiming that “there is a great deal of confusion out there” and these people “don’t understand” the situation.

YouTube Video: 91,000 calls; 85,000 Against the Bailout Bill

Our representatives ignored our demands claiming that we ordinary folks just didn’t grasp the complexity of the economics involved. And yet, this socialistic nationalization of banks, brokers, and money funds seems to have done little more than to fuel a frenzied demand for wanton bailouts and enormous loans by an ever-expanding queue of businesses that believe they are entitled to similar handouts from taxpayer funds.

They’re lining up before the government like ravenous swine at a new slop trough. We are in the midst of an onerous (perhaps crippling) irrational bailout entitlement syndrome. It started with the financial sector. Then, governors and mayors wanted in on the action. Now, it’s spreading to manufacturers. Will GE, Wal-Mart, or Target be next? What about pension funds?

Why is it that capitalism is triumphed when profits through risky ventures are pouring in, but socialism is demanded when those same risks collapse? Where does the bailout free-for-all end?

It’s as if they’re involved in some mind-boggling, temporal juggling act … tossing up tomorrow’s money today … a game that only seasoned Washington bureaucrats and inveterate con artists could appreciate. Are we living the American dream or suffering a socialist nightmare?

A few days ago (2008-11-25) Fox News’ Neil Cavuto described the ordeal, “First we were going to buy up bad mortgage paper, then Paulson decided that won’t work so TARP became CARP, investing in the banks themselves, but that didn’t work … soooooo … today Paulson decided to buy up banks bad assets.”

YouTube Video: Neil Cavuto re: Henry Paulson

Paulson’s fickled follies notwithstanding, what happens when these trillions of newly injected dollars explode a hyper-inflationary bubble? Are these morphing bailout “solutions” going to precipitate a greater challenge than the credit markets tightening back in September? Are we really fixing a problem? Have we forestalled a financial disaster or merely postponed it?

Of course we are confronted with grave economic challenges, but is obligating our grandchildren’s children to untold, perhaps immeasurable, debt and taxes the correct solution. Are our representatives exuberantly reacting to a problem rather than carefully and methodically solving it?

This irrational bailout entitlement syndrome is diametrically opposed to common sense financial accounting. Let’s consider some common sense alternatives … in a time of economic crisis.

Automotive Bailouts …
The Big-3 auto manufacturers swagger back to DC this week requesting their slices of the bailout pie. But, why aren’t BMW, Honda, Toyota, Porsche, Mercedes, and Subaru importuning in the bailout queue?

Without debating which is worse, feckless management decisions or exorbitant union benefits, let’s consider a common sense option. Instead of an outright bailout or an enormous loan, why not offer a government funded rebate on new car purchases? Let the amount range from $1500 to $3000 based on the fuel-economy of the vehicle … then the government should reward the manufacturer with the full rebate amount upon sale of the vehicle.

Cash Flow …
Now, instead of simply doling out freshly printed money from the Fed and Treasury’s bottomless pit of greenbacks, how about applying common sense principles to increasing the flow of EXISTING cash?

Capital gains are typically realized from the sale of stocks, bonds, precious metals, and property. When these profits are heavily taxed, there is strong motivation to hold onto assets. If we repealed the capital gains tax for a couple of years, we’d create a handsome incentive to liquidate assets, thereby freeing up cash. Let’s eliminate the capital gains tax for two years.

Small business makes up 99 percent of employers and employ more than half of workers in this country. If these small businesses (500 or less employees) had much lower tax rates for a couple of years, they could actively engage in expansion … buy more products, use more services, hire more employees, pay employees more. Let’s lower corporate taxes on small businesses for two years so that we can grow wealth.

The Sarbanes-Oxley Act was enacted in 2002 in response to a number of major corporate and accounting scandals (Enron, Tyco, WorldCom, etc.). This law which applies only to publicly held companies established an agency charged with overseeing, regulating, inspecting, and disciplining accounting firms in their roles as auditors. Although investor confidence was restored by this law, it creates an overly complex regulatory environment which has reduced America’s international competitive edge against foreign financial service providers and it undermines the venture-capital industry. Let’s suspend Sarbanes-Oxley for one year and rewrite the law in the meantime.

Mark-To-Market (MTM) is the act of recording the price or value of a security, portfolio, or account to reflect its current market value rather than its book value. In effect, this technical accounting requirement stifles “irrational exuberance” of market valuation that Alan Greenspan spoke of in December 1996. But, MTM breaks down in a market crisis as panic-selling tends to produce prices that are out of line with underlying asset values. Today, for a period of time, we could benefit from an enthusiastic bull market. Once the economy recovers, we could revisit this methodology. Let’s suspend MTM for six months.

Waxing Lincolnesque …
Two centuries, one score, and a dozen years ago our forefathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. They built this nation with their own sweat and they defended it with their own blood.

Many thousands of these brave men and women sacrificed their lives for their steadfast belief that state authority must be derived from the consent of the governed. Washington, are you listening? We can apply some common sense accounting to our economic crisis. Stop the madness!!! Use common sense.

Thanksgiving Address By Obama

Posted by: SactoDan | Comments (1)

If I were Obama’s speech writer, this is what I’d write:

Washington DC– My Fellow Americans. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a very special Thanksgiving.

In this time of economic uncertainty, many of you are feeling anxiety over your jobs, homes and savings. The recent terror attacks in India have rekindled fears about terrorism.

Let me reassure you. First of all, the transition of power is largely underway. My transition team and I have been working closely with President Bush and his administration. While there can only be one President at a time, President Bush should be commended for his initiative and cooperation in making the transition of power as smooth as possible. My staff and I have been granted unprecedented access to key information about sensitive domestic and international issues.

Many of my cabinet appointees have been selected and I have assurances from Senator Reid that the required confirmations will be handled by the Senate in a timely fashion. My administration will be ready to govern on January 20th, 2009.

As we give thanks for our blessings as Americans today I am fully aware of the economic woes many of you are facing. Many of you have lost a job, cannot make your mortgage payment, or your business is slowing down. I am pledging to you that my administration will continue the work already started by President Bush and the Congress, and I have an economic stimulus plan ready to be enacted the day I take office. The effects of these efforts will not be immediate, so I need to ask for your patience and support while we do everything we can as a government to assist you through this difficult time. I am also asking for the private sector to be supportive and patient. It is imperative that as many people as possible keep their jobs and homes as we navigate though these unprecedented, but temporary problems.

I want to emphasize that I have full confidence in the American people, the American government and our economy’s ability to weather this storm.

Let me speak for a moment to those outside the US who would try to take advantage of us during a transition of power. You might think that because of our current temporary economic woes that we are preoccupied. You might also think that our military is weakened and overextended in Iraq and Afghanistan, and we are unable to defend ourselves or protect our national interests abroad.

I want to be clear; even with our current economic problems, we still have the largest economy in the world. Our military has over 2 million professional members. Less than 20% of it is committed to the current conflicts. That is a volunteer force without a draft. Our intelligence agencies and anti-terrorist networks remain active, vigilant and well funded, and while we see no immediate or long term reasons to need it, our nuclear deterrent remains in place.

During my campaign, I spoke of change. I intend to change the dynamic in Washington from one of acrimony and partisanship to one of cooperation so we can work together to solve America’s problems. I also spoke of change in our international relations. I am committed to improving America’s image at home and abroad and I will meet those commitments, but not at the expense of our nation’s security.

Have a safe and secure Thanksgiving. Thank you all.

Ah, one can only hope.

Remember Reginald Denny? He is the guy who was unlucky enough to be driving through South Central Los Angeles when the Rodney King beating trial verdicts were announced. Denny was pulled out of his truck and beaten to a pulp.

Emotions ran high in anticipation of a guilty verdict, and when the officers who beat King on camera were acquitted, Los Angeles erupted in violence.

Fast forward to 2008. In the midst of the longest, bitterest, most emotional Presidential election in modern history, the media and pollsters have all but declared Barack Obama, America’s first African American Candidate the winner.

Locally, on Armstrong and Getty’s radio program, a self described African American caller made vague threatening statements over the news topic being discussed, a recently foiled Obama assassination attempt. While that caller no more represents the Black Community than the wack job skinheads who were arrested in the plot represent whites, it illustrates that emotions are running high.

If Obama loses is violence possible?

Elections are unpredictable and the pundits and pollsters are often wrong. No matter what the outcome next Tuesday, America needs a peaceful transfer of power, and everyone needs to stay calm. Ballots, not bullets.

But if John McCain should win, it might be prudent to stay home next Wednesday, just in case.

Back in March, 2003, George Bush did something most unusual at his televised news conference….he ignored Helen Thomas. Not only did he refuse to acknowledge her to ask a question he dealt her another insult. Traditionally Ms. Thomas concluded White House press conferences by saying, “Thank you, Mr. President”, but this time Bush ended the conference himself by saying “Thank you for your questions.” It was a notable snub and the press took that note.

Bush’s actions, IMO, said more about him than it did about Ms. Thomas. Helen Thomas is an outspoken critic of George Bush and her questions were often pointed and tough. As we all know, Bush doesn’t like being questioned….so it seems neither does Obama or Biden.

We all know Bush has been a secretive and arrogant president so why bring this up now? Well, I’ve said on a number of occasions that I think Barack Obama is the left’s version of George W. Bush and here is just another example to illustrate why I think that.

In a satellite interview Thursday, WFTV’s Barbara West (a Florida T.V. station), Joe Biden was asked some very tough questions. One question asked Biden how Obama’s desire to spread the wealth wasn’t being Marxist. Biden replied with “Are you joking?” I can understand why Biden would think it was a joke given how seldom either he or Obama are asked tough questions.

The Obama camp’s response to the interview was to kill an interview that WFTV had scheduled with Biden’s wife and issue this statement:

“This cancellation is non-negotiable, and further opportunities for your station to interview with this campaign are unlikely, at best for the duration of the remaining days until the election,” wrote Laura K. McGinnis, Central FL communications director for the Obama campaign, according to the Sentinel. SOURCE

Those of us not in the tank for Obama have often asked why the media has given him a pass, time and time again. Well, here’s the answer. The media either asks the questions Obama is comfortable with or he takes his little red wagon and goes home….no interviews for the offending party.

This arrogance, this idea that he is above answering the tough questions is EXACTLY the arrogance of GWB that got us into the troubles were are in today. The Bush administration bullied the press and refused to answer the questions American needed answers to and so, too, will Barack Obama.

Take heed….Obama has the same bullying attitude and this is exactly what we can expect from his as president. Here’s the warning of what kind of administration we can expect…pay attention.

Barack With A Backwards B

Posted by: SactoDan | Comments (2)

When the Ashley Todd story hit the news the other night I told my kids who were sitting in front of the TV with me that it will be proven as bunk in a day or so.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - A McCain campaign volunteer made up a story of being robbed, pinned to the ground and having the letter “B” scratched on her face in a politically inspired attack, police said Friday.Ashley Todd, 20-year-old college student from College Station, Texas, admitted Friday that the story was false and was being charged with making a false report to police, said Maurita Bryant, the assistant chief of the police department’s investigations division. Police doubted her story from the start, Bryant said.

Todd, who is white, told police she was attacked by a 6-foot-4 black man Wednesday night. source

“How do you know?” they asked.

No one would mug someone and carve a backwards B into their face, DUH. It had to have been done in a mirror.

The scare tactics of  the John McCain team.

More race baiting from the John McCain/Matt Drudge campaign. Or as The Field Negro said, another white person cries wolf: or, in this case, Obama.

AAPP: It was great that CNN refused to pump up the story. Fox & Friends’ loved to pump up her lies, and race baiting political hate crime. If this was the 1940’s and 50’s a Big Black Guy would have been lynched. What! A Big Black Obama Supporter carving a B into a white woman who attacked her. Thank god, some things have changed in this country, there are now black police officers, detectives and other police officials who questioned the story from the beginning. If this was the deep south or deep north, a black man may have been dragged out of some place and blamed for a crime that never happened. Maybe blogger Jabrielle Ballentine is right, she did it in order to fuel racial tensions. She should be charged with conspiracy to incite a riot.

Ashley Todd’s assault has been confirmed to be a hoax, the McCain volunteer made up attack story reports the Chicago Tribune.

The Police have said there are inconsistencies in the McCain staffer’s story. The Police reportedly admitted Friday the attack was a hoax. I guess the McCain Campaign will have to drop any planned Willie Horton type ad regarding Ashley Todd on the tube. I know the far right news outlets, and conservative bloggers will be pissed. The McCain Camp Has Its Own Tawana Brawley.

You see, the 20-year-old Ashley Todd was facing a Polygraph test to be administered by officials after claiming she was brutally beaten over her political views.

I didn’t cover this robbery story as it sounded like it was fabricated. I like many other bloggers thought this story sounded shaky and smelled awfully weird. The old race baiting trick about a white girl going into a black neighborhood, blaming a black guy for an assualt, fondling and robbery. What really was strange was the writing of the B backwards on the face. I knew that in reading and hearing about robberies, there was a problem that would come out in the red neck wash. You see,  black folks (negros) don’t write messages on people, after a robbery, they just get the hell out of the neighborhood.

New we learn that it was all a bogus hoax, blaming the black man again.

Get this, Ashley Todd, claimed she was attacked and robbed of $60 at an ATM in the Pittsburgh, Bloomfield area Wednesday night when a ‘6′4, 200-pound black man‘ mugged her and discovered she was a McCain: McCain/Palin supporter. Get this, according to Todd, the black man robbed her at knifepoint before noticing the McCain bumper sticker on her car - triggering him to allegedly begin beating Todd with his hands and feet and carving an odd, backwards “B” on her face with his knife. More HERE
Now, as reported in Raw Story, shortly before a John McCain campaign volunteer was reportedly robbed at knifepoint and had a “B” carved in her face after her assailant noticed that her car carried a McCain bumper sticker, the woman blogged last night that she was “Stubbornly searching for a bank of america to avoid ATM fees” and had somehow ended up “on the wrong side of Pittsburgh.”

Ashley Todd, a 20-year-old Texas college student, told cops that she was robbed of $60 by a 6′ 4″ black man who weighed about 200 pounds. Todd claimed that when her assailant noticed the McCain sticker on her vehicle, he punched her in the head and carved the letter on her right cheek (a battered Todd can be seen at right).

Shortly before the reported 9 PM attack, Todd updated her Twitter page with a post noting that she was, “Stubbornly searching for a bank of america to avoid ATM fees.” Soon after, she blogged, “Pretty sure I’m on the wrong side of pittsburgh.” Three hours after that update, Todd wrote, “Oh the blog I will be making soon…Its been a rough night.”

A screen grab of Todd’s Twitter page–which was linked from her page on a College Republican National Committee web site–can be found below. At about 6 PM (est) tonight, Todd’s Twitter page became protected and was no longer publicly available. More HERE
