Corruption? What corruption?
Posted by: | CommentsSeems odd does it not, those who were screaming loudest about Republican corruption seem to have lost their voices lately? Hmmm….
If anyone out there is shocked with the staggering level of corruption in Illinois politics, you must be a newbie to politics. Corruption has been turned from a vice to a refined art form in the Windy City.
Can anyone remember where President elect Obama started his political career? Oh yea, ground zero for dirty politics, the south side of Chicago. It would seem that Barack Obama has kept his hands pretty clean over the years, staying just far enough away from criminals like Tony Rezko to get a few sweet deals, but no close enough to get burned. Now it’s his friend, Governor Rod Blagojevich.
Look, I know that Republicans in Congress have had an abysmal record of cleaning house when it comes to scandalous members, it was an anchor around the neck of the GOP in the 2006 election. It is a fundamental attitude that has to change in order to win back the base as well as swing voters. Stand up and do what is right, even if costs you political power. It seems Republicans are learning their lessons these days, but I don’t know how you could keep a straight face and tell me the Democrats are not hip deep in corrupt politicians.
From Democratic Representative (Thanks Ray, I was bit groggy when I wrote this), Charlie Rangle and his tax evasion scandal, and Representative William Jefferson and his cold cash, to Democratic senator Chris Dodd and his sweetheart mortgage deal while serving on the Senate Banking Committee and now Democratic Governor Rod Blagojevich and a bunch of top Illinois dems are getting frog walked downtown for trying to sell Obama’s soon to be vacant Senate seat.
The greatest irony in the whole Illinois scandal is the Federal Prosecutor who is slapping the cuffs on these Democratic big wigs is none other than Patric Fitzgerald, the same guy the dems praised for his ‘non-political’ prosecution of Scooter Libby.
I wonder when they will start calling this a Republican witch hunt?
Stay tuned….
Interim Rescue of Automakers Moves Forward in Congress
Posted by: | CommentsWhy is it when it was banks and loan companies asking for bailouts nobody wanted to impose a bunch of restrictions on them but when the auto industry asks for help they get piled on? Could it possibly be a class thing? Banks and loan companies employ white collar workers and the auto industry employs blue collar workers.
Seriously, is the auto industry any more guilty of poor management than the banks that went belly up?
Interim Rescue of Automakers Moves Forward in Congress
By DAVID M. HERSZENHORN
Published: December 5, 2008WASHINGTON — Faced with staggering new unemployment figures, Democratic Congressional leaders said on Friday that they were ready to provide a short-term rescue plan for the cash-strapped American automakers, and expected to hold votes on the legislation during a special session next week.
Details of the rescue package were not immediately available but senior Congressional aides said that it would include billions of dollars in short-term loans to keep the automakers afloat at least until President-elect Barack Obama takes office.
Ending a weeks-long stalemate between the Bush administration and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, senior aides said that the money would likely come from $25 billion in federally subsidized loans intended for developing advanced fuel efficient cars.

Supreme Court Hears Obama Case
Posted by: | Commentsby LukeAmerica2020
Today (2008-12-05), the Supreme Court justices will consider a lawsuit that alleges Senator Barack Obama was not qualified to be on the New Jersey ballot. The lawsuit was filed by attorney Leo Donofrio who is questioning Obama’s citizenship.
The high court hearing comes just 10 days before the Electoral College meets to certify the election results. And, finally, the MSM has offered some limited coverage of this monumental Supreme Court hearing (see the links below).
And, according to WorldNetDaily, more than 60,000 letters were sent to U.S. Supreme Court. These letters, one for each of the nine justices, delivered urgent requests to review Obama citizenship. (read this entire post…)
Thanksgiving Address By Obama
Posted by: | CommentsIf I were Obama’s speech writer, this is what I’d write:
Washington DC– My Fellow Americans. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a very special Thanksgiving.
In this time of economic uncertainty, many of you are feeling anxiety over your jobs, homes and savings. The recent terror attacks in India have rekindled fears about terrorism.
Let me reassure you. First of all, the transition of power is largely underway. My transition team and I have been working closely with President Bush and his administration. While there can only be one President at a time, President Bush should be commended for his initiative and cooperation in making the transition of power as smooth as possible. My staff and I have been granted unprecedented access to key information about sensitive domestic and international issues.
Many of my cabinet appointees have been selected and I have assurances from Senator Reid that the required confirmations will be handled by the Senate in a timely fashion. My administration will be ready to govern on January 20th, 2009.
As we give thanks for our blessings as Americans today I am fully aware of the economic woes many of you are facing. Many of you have lost a job, cannot make your mortgage payment, or your business is slowing down. I am pledging to you that my administration will continue the work already started by President Bush and the Congress, and I have an economic stimulus plan ready to be enacted the day I take office. The effects of these efforts will not be immediate, so I need to ask for your patience and support while we do everything we can as a government to assist you through this difficult time. I am also asking for the private sector to be supportive and patient. It is imperative that as many people as possible keep their jobs and homes as we navigate though these unprecedented, but temporary problems.
I want to emphasize that I have full confidence in the American people, the American government and our economy’s ability to weather this storm.
Let me speak for a moment to those outside the US who would try to take advantage of us during a transition of power. You might think that because of our current temporary economic woes that we are preoccupied. You might also think that our military is weakened and overextended in Iraq and Afghanistan, and we are unable to defend ourselves or protect our national interests abroad.
I want to be clear; even with our current economic problems, we still have the largest economy in the world. Our military has over 2 million professional members. Less than 20% of it is committed to the current conflicts. That is a volunteer force without a draft. Our intelligence agencies and anti-terrorist networks remain active, vigilant and well funded, and while we see no immediate or long term reasons to need it, our nuclear deterrent remains in place.
During my campaign, I spoke of change. I intend to change the dynamic in Washington from one of acrimony and partisanship to one of cooperation so we can work together to solve America’s problems. I also spoke of change in our international relations. I am committed to improving America’s image at home and abroad and I will meet those commitments, but not at the expense of our nation’s security.
Have a safe and secure Thanksgiving. Thank you all.
Ah, one can only hope.

Is Violence Possible If Obama Loses? UPDATE NOV.4, Toledo PD Issues Riot Gear!
Posted by: | Comments
Remember Reginald Denny? He is the guy who was unlucky enough to be driving through South Central Los Angeles when the Rodney King beating trial verdicts were announced. Denny was pulled out of his truck and beaten to a pulp.
Emotions ran high in anticipation of a guilty verdict, and when the officers who beat King on camera were acquitted, Los Angeles erupted in violence.
Fast forward to 2008. In the midst of the longest, bitterest, most emotional Presidential election in modern history, the media and pollsters have all but declared Barack Obama, America’s first African American Candidate the winner.
Locally, on Armstrong and Getty’s radio program, a self described African American caller made vague threatening statements over the news topic being discussed, a recently foiled Obama assassination attempt. While that caller no more represents the Black Community than the wack job skinheads who were arrested in the plot represent whites, it illustrates that emotions are running high.
If Obama loses is violence possible?
Elections are unpredictable and the pundits and pollsters are often wrong. No matter what the outcome next Tuesday, America needs a peaceful transfer of power, and everyone needs to stay calm. Ballots, not bullets.
But if John McCain should win, it might be prudent to stay home next Wednesday, just in case.

Palin Cleared in Firing of Trooper
Posted by: | Comments
Sarah Palin did not violate ethics laws in the so-called Troopergate scandal, an independent counsel has concluded. An investigator hired by the Alaska Personnel Board concluded that Palin did not violate the Alaska Executive Ethics Act in the firing of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan because he refused to fire her sister’s ex-husband, Mike Wooten.
The finding contradicts an October 10 report by the state Legislature that concluded Palin tried to have Wooten fired, thereby violating rules designed to prevent the personal lives of public officials interfering with their work.
Palin tried to stop the original investigation when she became the Republican vice-presidential candidate. The Alaska governor ultimately settled on having the Personnel Board perform the investigation.
The new investigation was conducted by Timothy Petumenos, who was hired as the independent counsel for the Personnel Board. Petumenos argued that the original investigation, conducted by former state prosecutor Steve Branchflower, was based on the wrong state law. Petumenos also suggested that Branchflower misinterpreted the evidence.
“There is no probable cause to believe that the governor, or any other state official, violated the Alaska Executive Ethics Act in connection with these matters,” Timothy Petumenos, the Anchorage lawyer hired to conduct the investigation, wrote in his final report.
“The Alaska Personnel Board has determined in this case, because there was already in some respect the sanction of public approbation and many conclusions and opinions reached with respect to this matter, that it was critical the report be issued now and in a timely fashion,” Petumenos said.
[...]
Despite the conclusions of Branchflower’s October 10 report, Palin declared that she had been “cleared of any legal wrongdoing” in the matter. Her attorney, Thomas Van Flein, argued the Branchflower report had wrongly interpreted state ethics law.
“The governor is grateful that this investigation has provided a fair and impartial review of this matter and upholds the governor’s ability to take measures when necessary to ensure that Alaskans have the best possible team working to serve them,” Van Flein said.
Petumenos said he had been “working until midnight and beyond” to complete the report before the election and had hoped to deliver it to the Personnel Board last week.
Could this report help the McCain/Palin ticket?
