Today (2008-12-05), the Supreme Court justices will consider a lawsuit that alleges Senator Barack Obama was not qualified to be on the New Jersey ballot. The lawsuit was filed by attorney Leo Donofrio who is questioning Obama’s citizenship.
The high court hearing comes just 10 days before the Electoral College meets to certify the election results. And, finally, the MSM has offered some limited coverage of this monumental Supreme Court hearing (see the links below).
And, according to WorldNetDaily, more than 60,000 letters were sent to U.S. Supreme Court. These letters, one for each of the nine justices, delivered urgent requests to review Obama citizenship. (read this entire post…)
Is General Motors too big to fail? What about Ford and Chrysler?
The answer is yes and no. Yes, because the auto industry is the manufacturing backbone of the US economy and the workers, material suppliers, dealers and associated businesses that would be hurt if the Big Three closed their doors would act as an anchor on our economy for years. No, for the plain fact that if your business is encumbered by unsustainable labor contracts and a corporate mindset that has not changed with the US auto market, no amount of bailout money will save it.
Trying to save the big three by giving them money is like trying to lift a bucket while you’re standing in it. Just as politicians are allergic to reality and telling their constituents bad news, GM has not stood up to the UAW or to the shareholders and said, this is just plain crazy. No one at the top of the big three has the courage to say we cannot sign these labor contracts, if you want to strike, strike. If we make it through fine, but to sign these labor contracts would be suicide for our company and just won’t do it.
Mitt Romney’s editorial in the Times is a great piece, you should read the whole thing.
First, their huge disadvantage in costs relative to foreign brands must be eliminated. That means new labor agreements to align pay and benefits to match those of workers at competitors like BMW, Honda, Nissan and Toyota. Furthermore, retiree benefits must be reduced so that the total burden per auto for domestic makers is not higher than that of foreign producers.
That extra burden is estimated to be more than $2,000 per car. Think what that means: Ford, for example, needs to cut $2,000 worth of features and quality out of its Taurus to compete with Toyota’s Avalon. Of course the Avalon feels like a better product — it has $2,000 more put into it.
Think about that. GM is in the hole $2,000 before they tighten a bolt on a new car. The other great point Mitt makes is the leadership must change, and not just new people who have been raised in this big three culture, they need new blood with a track record of reinventing companies. Someone from the outside who has worked hand in hand with labor and has sat down and showed them the books. Someone who will tell the UAW that you can shear a sheep year after year, but you can only slaughter it once.
The AUW has a job to do, get as much money as they can for their members, but what happens when they demand so much that their member’s jobs simply vanish? Is this what their members want? Is this what labor negotiations have come to?
We want what we want, and if it drives you out of business, oh well.
Back to the bailout, if GM and the rest of the big three have a burn rate of billions of dollars a month, what use is giving them 25 billion more? This is like giving someone a third mortgage on a house in foreclosure, it might keep the lights on for a little while but it doesn’t change the fact that they are going broke because they spend more than they make.
It’s called reality. Get used to it. Sell the corporate jets, cut your upper management, cut your executive’s salaries, and then ask the UAW to rework their contracts.
It is the only way it will work. Even with the bailout, this will still need to be done to save the domestic auto industry, they will just be a year further in the hole and the taxpayers will be $25 Billion poorer.
The first rule about holes is, when your in one, stop digging.
You see, the 20-year-old Ashley Todd was facing a Polygraph test to be administered by officials after claiming she was brutally beaten over her political views.
New we learn that it was all a bogus hoax, blaming the black man again.
Get this, Ashley Todd, claimed she was attacked and robbed of $60 at an ATM in the Pittsburgh, Bloomfield area Wednesday night when a ‘6′4, 200-pound black man‘ mugged her and discovered she was a McCain: McCain/Palin supporter. Get this, according to Todd, the black man robbed her at knifepoint before noticing the McCain bumper sticker on her car - triggering him to allegedly begin beating Todd with his hands and feet and carving an odd, backwards “B” on her face with his knife. Now, as reported in Raw Story, shortly before a John McCain campaign volunteer was reportedly robbed at knifepoint and had a “B” carved in her face after her assailant noticed that her car carried a McCain bumper sticker, the woman blogged last night that she was “Stubbornly searching for a bank of america to avoid ATM fees” and had somehow ended up “on the wrong side of Pittsburgh.”
Ashley Todd, a 20-year-old Texas college student, told cops that she was robbed of $60 by a 6′ 4″ black man who weighed about 200 pounds. Todd claimed that when her assailant noticed the McCain sticker on her vehicle, he punched her in the head and carved the letter on her right cheek (a battered Todd can be seen at right).
Shortly before the reported 9 PM attack, Todd updated her Twitter page with a post noting that she was, “Stubbornly searching for a bank of america to avoid ATM fees.” Soon after, she blogged, “Pretty sure I’m on the wrong side of pittsburgh.” Three hours after that update, Todd wrote, “Oh the blog I will be making soon…Its been a rough night.”
A screen grab of Todd’s Twitter page–which was linked from her page on a College Republican National Committee web site–can be found below. At about 6 PM (est) tonight, Todd’s Twitter page became protected and was no longer publicly available. More HERE
Imagine for a moment that you have an opportunity to pretend you are killing Sarah Palin. Would you do it? Would it be cool with your morals? After all, it’s only imaginary. Well an artist in New York City has thought all this through and decided that shooting Sarah or her daughter Piper might just be great fun. This woman has made it possible for passersby to line up with a gun and pretend they are doing just that. What’s the harm? It’s only make believe. Right. Read More→
A refreshing trend is becoming fashionable all over the country. Ordinary working class Americans are standing up and speaking out in response to the savage attacks against Joe the Plumber. In Joe they see themselves. Someone just trying to live the American dream. Families only trying to better their lives and leave behind a more prosperous future for their children.
To them Joe is a hero. Not because he is a plumber and a single father, but because he had the audacity to question The One about his tax plan. And after he received the response he had his personal life exposed and demeaned not only by the complicit Obamedia, but by the Democratic presidential candidates themselves. Ordinary Americans are fighting back.
They are mad as hell and they aren’t going to take it any more. Read More→
Those were the words Sarah spoke today in West Chester, Ohio, my home town. I’m just now home from her rally and it was exceptional. On a cold and overcast day it was no accident that as soon as Sarah stepped on stage the sun came out, shining upon her as she shined on us.
For those of you that haven’t been to a Sarah Palin event you have missed something very special. When she speaks, you know that she is a politician but more importantly you know that she is a politician that hasn’t forgotten where she came from.
Jennifer Brunner, the Democratic Secretary of State in Ohio has decided that she will follow the ruling of the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals and comprise a system to share questionable registrations with county election officials. But there is a caveat. The Court ordered Brunner to accomplish this task by this Friday and Brunner says she won’t be able to complete the work until Monday. So who knows where this is going. While other states are investigating the blatant widespread fraud and abuse, two citizens in Warren County, Ohio have enlisted the aid of The Buckeye Institute for Public Policy Solutions and are suing ACORN for depriving them of their rights as citizens to participate in a fair election. And they are demanding that ACORN itself be dissolved.
The lawsuit by the the Buckeye Institute was filed in Warren County Common Pleas Court on behalf of two voters concerned their votes could be diluted by fraud. The lawsuit seeks to dissolve ACORN using the state’s Corrupt Activity Act.
The Buckeye Institute, a Columbus-based group, alleges the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now has engaged in a pattern of corrupt activity that amounts to organized crime. It seeks ACORN’s dissolution as a legal entity, the revocation of any licenses in Ohio, and an injunction against fraudulent voter registration and other illegal activities.
We’ve all seen the headlines. According to the MSM Obamedia, Sarah Palin has been found to have abused her power as Governor by reassigning one of her appointees to another job. Mysteriously missing from this claim is the fact that as Governor she has the legal right to do so to any appointee at any time, regardless of what anyone thinks about it. So in fact, Sarah did not abuse her power, she exercised it. And that seems to be what the uproar is all about. Read More→
This is really starting to get out of hand. A retired Supreme Court Justice in Pennsylvania doesn’t believe it will even be possible to have a fair election in her state.
