Are HP Computers Racist?
WASHINGTON — Militants in Iraq have used $26 off-the-shelf software to intercept live video feeds from U.S. Predator drones, potentially providing them with information they need to evade or monitor U.S. military operations.
Senior defense and intelligence officials said Iranian-backed insurgents intercepted the video feeds by taking advantage of an unprotected communications link in some of the remotely flown planes’ systems. Shiite fighters in Iraq used software programs such as SkyGrabber — available for as little as $25.95 on the Internet — to regularly capture drone video feeds, according to a person familiar with reports on the matter.
Just before Palm started shipping its new Pre smartphone, it surprised us all by announcing that customers would be able to sync their phones to a PC or Mac using Apple’s iTunes software.
I wondered at the time how long it would take Apple’s lawyers or engineers to put an end to that practice. Turns out the engineers won. The latest upgrade to Apple’s iTunes software no longer recognizes the Pre as if it were an iPod.
Pre users can still synchronize their device to a computer, but not with the newest version of iTunes.
The new Apple iPhone 3GS is hot. So hot, in fact, that Apple has built in a kill switch that won’t let you use it once it hits 113 degrees.
Reports began circulating online last week that the latest iteration of the iPhone got noticeably warmer than its predecessors. And photos popped up on a French tech blog of iPhones so hot their white exteriors were glowing pink.
Then two respected American tech reporters confirmed the rumors were true — because it had personally happened to them.
“At some point, I became aware the handset had become very hot,” wrote PC World’s Melissa J. Perenson on Friday. “Very, very hot — not just on the back, but the entire length of the front face, too.”
“One does not … expect to reach under one’s pillow and find an iPhone that passes for a handwarmer,” wrote her colleague David Coursey on Monday.

UPDATE: 3.0 has been released…
At the time of the post, the highly aniticipated iPhone 3.0 is not yet available for download. Well, Apple has news for you; ya gotta wait!
I have seen on the interent where individuals waited up until midnight (PST) and 3 AM (EST) in hopes of the downloading the new iPhone software 3.0. Rumors now are that downloads will begin at 10AM (PST) and 1PM (EST).
The Unofficial Apple Weblog has a good post:
Things to do while waiting for the iPhone update.
Today is a day of waiting. Waiting for Apple to send out the version 3.0 update. Waiting for the update to download. Waiting for the firmware to update, and then the restore of your apps and settings to finish. That’s a lot of screen staring. Here’s some helpful hints on things you can do while you wait…. and wait.
- Consider how nice it would be to send an MMS, but that involves more waiting (if you’re an AT&T customer), maybe until fall
- Think about how to unload your current iPhone on eBay so you can get the 3G S and go through more reloading fun
- Pretend you can tether (thanks AT&T)
- Start making a list of all the missing features in version 3.0
