Put Welfare and EDD Recipients to Work in Sacramento Parks
I guess the parents better make sure that little Sally and little Johnny have gone potty before going to their local park. Otherwise, they are gonna have a problem come next week.
Starting next week, finding a bathroom to use at a Sacramento park will be a lot tougher. Budget cuts are forcing city leaders to close the restrooms at all Sacramento parks except for those at McKinley Park and William Land Park. The city is also closing five city pools to recreational swimming and several community centers will only be open by reservation.
The city is also cutting several summer clubs and day camps. They will no longer operate the clubs and camps at American River Village Apartments, Burberry Park, Colonial Park, Didion School/Club House, Gardenland Park, Bertha Henschel Park, Marina Vista Housing Complex, North Laguna Creek Park, Parkway Oaks Park, Renfree Park, Southside Park, Taylor School and Tahoe Park.

Essentially what the City is telling us is that due to budget constraints and lack of funding, they do not have the payroll to have the bathrooms cleaned. So here is a suggestion on how to solve the lack of staffing; Welfare, EDD, and Disability!
We have thousands and thousands of people receiving funds from the state that make no contribution back to society. So, why not put the people to work? As part of receiving state aid, you must perform a community service of sort.
There are individuals who “play the system”. People who live off of Welfare. Who make it their job to live off of EDD. Then people who are on Disability. I am not talking about people who have a severe physical disability, (but people who can’t handle the workload or are stressed out.) have them work cleaning the bathrooms, picking up garbage, pulling weeds.
I say put them to work. Now,I am not for one minute saying that these people should be used to replace city/state workers, but used in a crisis situation. Instead of them sitting at home collecting checks for doing absolutely nothing, they can make a meaningful contribution.
What do you think?
