Terrorist Attack On The US, When?- Updated 10/24
Posted by: | CommentsSenator Biden said a President Obama would be tested by the world to find out if he has the mettle to respond.
Speaking in Seattle on Sunday, Biden said he could guarantee that the world will want to find out if Obama is up to the job, which he assured voters he is.
“Mark my words. It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking,” Biden said. Source
It is a good time to have a week’s worth of flashlights, batteries, drinkable water and food on hand. Paranoid? Maybe.
I surmise that if there will be an attack on the US Homeland it will be after the election if Obama is elected, during the last days of the Bush Administration. Let’s face it, George Bush is not on Al Qaeda’s top 10 guests to invite to a party list. They attacked us and GW has made them wish they never heard his name. So I can imagine them wanting to pay back President Bush.
The cave dwellers want Obama to be President. His anti-war rhetoric, liberal views and inexperience probably lead Al Qaeda’s leadership to think he would invite them to tea before responding militarily to an attack. Plus, an attack on the homeland before the election would all but guarantee a McCain win, so they would wait.
It would be their parting shot at President Bush at a time when most of his advisors and appointees would be packing their cubicles to leave Washington, and Obama’s administration would not yet be in place. A response by Bush would be all but impossible, and Obama would not yet be President. The US would be caught flat footed and the already shaky financial markets would be sent into a tailspin.
Senator Biden said a President Obama would be tested. Let’s not find out if he was right.
10/24/08 Update: No signs of Al Qaeda election threat - U.S.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Al Qaeda has shown no signs it plans to attack the United States during the presidential election, but the government must keep guard during the 2-1/2-month transition to a new president, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said on Thursday.
“I have not seen evidence that a major element of al Qaeda’s planning is our anniversaries or our elections,” Chertoff more
Copy of 2006 Letter Demanding Fannie and Freddie Reform From McCain
Posted by: | CommentsThis 2006 letter (see below) signed by John McCain and 19 other Senators has surfaced demanding reform of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. It predicts the the doom we are seeing today. Barack Obama’s signature is absent.
This proves the point that McCain was on the right side of the issue when it counted, and that other one was not.
Brokaw looked old. McCain looked old. Obama looked young and Presidential
Posted by: | CommentsI could not agree more with Tom Shales of the Washington Post when he wrote, Brokaw looked old. McCain looked old and Obama looked young. Yes, Brokaw looked old, McCain looked old and Tom Brokaw treated Obama as the Hired Help.
Tom Shales was right when you wrote, “The biggest wet blanket on the debate stage, however, was moderator Tom Brokaw, who also played a kind of military role: Commander of the Clock. Time and again, the NBC newsman inflicted frivolous rules on the candidates that only served to frustrate true debate and the kind of give-and-take that a “town hall” format supposedly encourages. At least twice, Obama started to answer one of Brokaw’s questions only to have Brokaw call instead on McCain, which was rude and embarrassing.”
Tom Shales was also right when he wrote, “Exactly what the rules were remained unclear, even though Brokaw explained them at the start of the debate. He called for “discussion” periods that seemed only a minute long; what kind of a “discussion” is that? If a discussion really did threaten to break out, Brokaw got grumpy and called it off. The least important thing on an occasion such as this are a bunch of arbitrary rules concocted by the debate organizers (with the counsel of both parties, Brokaw insisted).”
AAPP: I agree with many media watch organizations such as Media Matters. I also agree with journalist, such as the Huffington Post, Hartford Courant, Kansas City Star, St. Petersburg Times, and bloggers regarding Brokaws performance last night. I hope this was Brokaw’s last stand as a debate moderator. As it sure looks like this may have been John McCain’s last stand, and he lost it. John McCain’s attack on Barack Obama failed last night. It’s clear that the momentum has turned against him.The bottom line with the economy on the verge of collapse, McCain failed to achieve the political surge he needed, even with the additional help from his buddy Tom Brokaw. John McCain’s proposal of another $300 billion plan to buy up bad mortgages was not thought out.
Barack Obama was a master last night. He acted presidential and gave reassurance to the American people that he is ready to lead. While Tom Brokaw looked old and John McCain just looked… old and acted color aroused.

Say Goodbye To All Of Obama’s Campaign Promises
Posted by: | CommentsThe past ten days has radically shifted the entire course of the Presidential campaigns… but seemingly not in the way that most people have caught on to yet.
From Firedoglake
I can’t think of any way to sugar coat this, I’m afraid. It’s a bad bill and it isn’t just that Barack Obama voted for it, it’s that everything I’m hearing from the Hill says that he’s been actively whipping it, not just in the Senate but in the House. Barack didn’t hold his nose and vote for this, he made it his bill as much as it is Paulson’s.
With this bill go your chances of having, say, universal health care, or massive infrastructure development, or really getting the US of its dependence on foreign oil, or really rebuilding America’s school system—or whatever other big, expensive project you thought Obama was promising….
….And it’s Barack Obama who turned to Nancy Pelosi and Reid and said “this bill must pass”. It’s Obama who is whipping votes and bending arms for this despite the fact that it is massively unpopular. This is Obama’s bill.
….That’s Obama’s first real act as the presumptive President and as the Democratic party’s de-facto leader.
I both agree and disagree with this article.
While I do agree that the bill as passed is less than great, I disagree with the author’s reasoning behind why the bill is so bad. As I have said before, the bill is a necessary evil and is better than not acting at all, but the bill as it was passed was terrible because of all the pork.
I do agree with the author that all of the projects that Obama has promised are dead in the water now.
Obama’s proposed projects would cost the United States $1.2 trillion… and he just signed on to a bill that eats about $815 billion out of the budget. It will be virtually impossible to add anything else of any size to the budget, even for the god-like Barack Obama.
It’s no wonder that Obama is getting really vague about what he is actually still going to accomplish… especially during the debates
LEHRER: All right. All right, speaking of things that both of you want, another lead question, and it has to do with the rescue — the financial rescue thing that we started — started asking about.
And what — and the first answer is to you, Senator Obama. As president, as a result of whatever financial rescue plan comes about and the billion, $700 billion, whatever it is it’s going to cost, what are you going to have to give up, in terms of the priorities that you would bring as president of the United States, as a result of having to pay for the financial rescue plan?
OBAMA: Well, there are a range of things that are probably going to have to be delayed. We don’t yet know what our tax revenues are going to be. The economy is slowing down, so it’s hard to anticipate right now what the budget is going to look like next year.
But there’s no doubt that we’re not going to be able to do everything that I think needs to be done.
Lehrer went on to press Obama even further and Obama got even more avoidant. The sidestepping during the debate was really interesting to watch though.
With those few deft phrases, Obama has basically absolved himself of actually having to deliver on any promises what-so-ever if he becomes President.
As the author from Firedoglake said… say good by to “universal health care, or massive infrastructure development, or really getting the US of its dependence on foreign oil, or really rebuilding America’s school system—or whatever other big, expensive project you thought Obama was promising.”
The fact is that, because of the price tag of the bailout bill, Obama cannot fulfill a single promise he has made and has as much as admitted it.
John McCain on the other hand can still deliver on his promises. He wants to cut spending and increase oversight to stimulate the economy, increase job creation and keep industry honest and on track.
And, so I will leave you with this…
Knowing all of the above… what is your answer to Bill Clinton’s question now?
For example, you’re a voter, and you have Candidate X and Candidate Y. Candidate X agrees with you on everything. But you don’t think that person can deliver on anything. Candidate Y disagrees with you on half the issues, but you believe that, on the other half, the candidate will be able to deliver. For whom will you vote?
Sarah Palin Wins The Debate- Rope-A-Dope!
Posted by: | CommentsWhen Sarah Palin was announced as the VP candidate the left wing blogs and media went so far overboard against her it had the effect of amplifying the effectiveness of her convention speech. This energized the base beyond expectations, and beyond the levels that would have been achieved if she had been treated fairly.
In the weeks leading up to the debate the same pattern was repeated. The Gibson and Couric interviews caused even some conservatives to start wondering. Again she was underestimated, and again the effect of her performance has been amplified.
There is great relief amongst conservatives tonight as Palin turned in a winning performance and eliminated doubts that she can handle herself and the issues. The left has no answer to deal with Sarah. The polls will tilt back towards McCain over the next several days. Rope-A-Dope!
McCain Ahead In Electoral College
Posted by: | CommentsWith the election less than two months away the McCain-Palin ticket has surged ahead in the electoral college vote count. With neither ticket at the magic number of 270 and 104 votes still up for grabs, the McCain-Palin ticket has 227 to the Obama-Biden ticket’s 207. The toss up states include Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada. See the whole map here at Real Clear Politics.
In polls the race is tightening as we move further from the conventions with the RCP Average at just +1.3 for McCain. See the Presidential polls here at Real Clear Politics.
The individual polls and the electoral count indicate that McCain and Palin continue to have the advantage but there is no break out by either candidate as election day gets closer. Short of a “big surprise” it looks like we are in for a very close election.
Base to McCain: keep your heading a few degrees to starboard
Posted by: | CommentsWith the republican national convention in the books and after the pick of Sarah Palin, Senator McCain is riding high in the polls. If early last week you asked me to bet the ranch on which convention would attract more television viewers, I would be living in a cardboard box.
An average of 34.5 million Americans tuned in to watch the republican convention. That is the largest viewing audience in the history of political conventions. However, a word of warning to the maverick John McCain; nice convention kid, don’t get cocky.
With the conservative base still in shock over their shiny new Vice Presidential candidate, McCain has to be very careful in the next 60 days not wander too far from the themes of the convention. For all the admiration of his personal story, his service, his courage and the self sacrifice McCain received over the past three days, he may forget just how unpopular some of his ideas are with those same millions who tuned in to watch and the thousands in Minneapolis who stood and cheered for him.
I did not follow the conventions too much this year, but I’m pretty sure Senator McCain did not mention the cap-and-trade legislation he proposes to limit greenhouse gasses in America. This legislation is economic suicide as well as a huge expansion of the role of government. Didn’t we just hear about how that’s a bad idea Thursday night? He didn’t mention giving million of illegal aliens amnesty, an idea that will cut the legs out from under the base like nothing else.
As McCain takes off on his campaign tour across the nation, my fear is the farther from the base of the republican party and the red states he travels, the more he will stray away from the message that united republicans and independents behind him at the convention. ‘
Right now Senator McCain is enjoying the honeymoon period of his candidacy. Most of the conservatives, including me, are willing to overlook McCain’s faults because he is the best candidate for President, by a factor of twelve. However, my motivation will wain if I start hearing this cap-and-trade nonsense and amnesty for all. No matter how many stirring speeches Sarah Palin gives on the campaign trail, if ‘the Maverick’ starts to twist the noses of his base too hard, the grassroots ground game will take a huge hit. That folks, is where this election will be won or lost, who can get out their vote. The Democrats are fired up and enraptured with the junior Senator from Illinois, they will be door knocking, walking precincts, and making phone calls to get their voters to the polls.
If John McCain starts turning left of republicans, the honeymoon will be over, and this marriage will become one of convenience. That is no way to win an election.
