Here is an excerpt from this perhaps prescient piece:
Obama will spend the rest of his life wondering why he rejected the obvious road to victory, that is, choosing Hillary Clinton as his vice presidential nominee. However reluctantly, Clinton would have had to accept. McCain’s choice of vice presidential candidate made obvious after the fact what the party professionals felt in their fingertips at the stadium extravaganza yesterday: rejecting Clinton in favor of the colorless, unpopular, tangle-tongued Washington perennial Joe Biden was a statement of weakness. McCain’s selection was a statement of strength. America’s voters will forgive many things in a politician, including sexual misconduct, but they will not forgive weakness. -Spengler, Asia Times Online

Hat Tip Rush Limbaugh for mentioning this article on his show.
Drudge Report has broken a story that Oprah Winfrey has refused to have Sarah Palin, the Republican candidate for VP on her show. Presumably this is because she is backing Obama. Winfrey reportedly denies negotiations are taking place.
This seems like a situation where the Fairness Doctrine would apply. Obama has been on the show so if in effect the Fairness Doctrine might force Winfrey to accept an appearance by the Republican candidate.
Generally speaking lefties want the Fairness Doctrine because they have been unable to make a commercial success on talk radio. They want to use it as a tool to force their way on the air to counter what they see as a monopoly by conservative talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh.
Here is where the law of unintended consequences would apply and a liberal show would be forced by the government to air a conservative segment they disagree with.
It could be said that is unfair not to give Sarah Palin a spot on Oprah Winfrey’s show, but it is her show and she alone has the right to select her guests.
